This is an experimental piece I tried after seeing this construction board at Bunnings and thought it would make an interesting background for a bird. The random timber shards remind me of bark or fallen branches on a forest floor. Sometimes I need a change from doing streetscapes, so I turn to my secret love of birds. They are fun to paint, especially Australian cockatoos as they have so much personality!
The Red Tailed Black Cockatoo is a beautiful native Australian bird and is often seen in large flocks, though it also occurs in pairs and trios. It is an active, noisy and conspicuous species that can be found all across Australia.
