FAQ
Stencil art is a very complex process. I start with a photo, which is then manipulated in Photoshop. I then create multiple layers which are printed out and hand cut (this is very intricate and time consuming!). Then the fun part really starts with spray painting, using the stencils as masks, slowly building up the layers and adding hand painted touches until I have a finished piece.
Sort of, but not really! They are similar in that an image is created by using multiple layers of masks to control where the ink (or paint) goes. But screen printing uses a squeegee to push speciality ink through a fine mesh, as opposed to stencil painting which typically uses spray paint directly onto a substrate.
You can buy my paintings direct from my website, or if you prefer, you can book a visit to my studio in Balwyn North, Melbourne. I offer a 7 day return policy so you can be certain you’ll love your painting. I can also offer a personal delivery and hanging service if you live in or around Melbourne. My work is also available through multiple online art sites - see stockists for more details,
It’s not always possible, but you can commission me to recreate a piece
and change it to suit your decor or space. If you are worried about
multiple versions of the same piece being sold, there is no way of
replicating a stencil painting due to the natural variations of spray
paint. Plus I also intentionally change each one by using different
colours, changing the cropping or even swapping in different
people/animals as the main figure. In other words - each piece is a certified original.
Yes - I now offer limited edition, numbered & signed reproduction prints (up to 30) of selected pieces. Check out the print shop.
That depends on your personal preference or other artwork in your collection. All of my pieces have the sides painted to offer a professional finish and come with a wire so it can so it can be hung unframed, straight away. I also offer a framing service when you purchase through my website, this also includes free shipping Australia-wide.
Yes and no! Yes, I am happy to create a personalised painting provided the photo source is a high quality with enough detail. I will be able to tell you very quickly whether it usable or not. If it is ok to use, I usually charge more for a one off commission as the time I spend creating a stencil is considerable, so I need to cover my time, effort and skill. The creative process is digital, so I am able to proof it with you via email before I start the painting to ensure you are happy with the composition and suggested colour scheme.
