Some places stay with us long after we've forgotten where they are.

Borrowed Tide isn't a painting of a particular coastline or landscape. It's more like the feeling of remembering one. Shapes emerge and disappear, colours shift, and familiar forms seem to drift in and out of focus, much like memories themselves.

This piece is part of my Memory Landscapes series, a body of work that explores the way memory changes over time. Rather than painting a real place, I'm interested in the fragments that remain: a glimpse of water, the curve of a headland, the trace of a path. They don't need to make perfect sense because memory rarely does.

Built up through dozens of layers of paint, scraping, drawing and glazing, the surface reveals itself slowly. Every mark records a decision, a revision or something deliberately left behind. The result is a painting that changes the longer you spend with it, inviting you to bring your own memories and experiences to the work.
