This original stencil painting by Melbourne artist Geoff Cunningham captures the nostalgic character of Australian neighbourhoods and everyday childhood moments of the 1970s and 80's. Geoff blends hand-cut stencils and layered spray techniques to create bold light, shadow and detail. Each piece celebrates the warmth, simplicity and familiarity of retro Australian life.
'Crossing Lines' is set against the North Melbourne Town Hall in a sunlit streetscape that nods to 1970s Melbourne. The vintage car is based on my first car - an LH Torana, bringing a personal layer to the scene, while the woman is styled as a bridge between past and present. Built with hand-cut stencils and spray paint, the work draws together memory, place and a distinctly cinematic take on everyday urban life.
Acrylic & aerosol on canvas - 130 x 80cm. This piece is framed with a low profile floating oak frame (framed size 133 x 83cm).
