This original stencil painting by Melbourne artist Geoff Cunningham captures the nostalgic character of Australian neighbourhoods and everyday childhood moments of the 1970s and 80's. Geoff blends hand-cut stencils and layered spray techniques to create bold light, shadow and detail. Each piece celebrates the warmth, simplicity and familiarity of retro Australian life.
'Electric Dream' depicts a confident young woman who walks beneath a web of overhead power lines, headphones on and lost in her own soundtrack as the city hums quietly around her.
The buildings are deliberately washed in pink, pushing the scene away from strict realism and into something closer to memory. Like an old photograph or slide, the place is recognisable, but the colour gives it a slightly dreamlike edge.
Each piece is created by hand using multiple hand-cut stencils and layers of spray paint, making every work unique.
Acrylic & aerosol on canvas - 80 x 80 x 2.5cm. This piece is framed with a low profile floating oak frame.
