This original stencil painting by Melbourne artist Geoff Cunningham captures the nostalgic character of Australian neighbourhoods and everyday childhood moments of the 1970s and 80s. Geoff blends hand-cut stencils and layered spray techniques to create bold light, shadow and detail. Each piece celebrates the warmth, simplicity and familiarity of retro Australian life.
"A sun-drenched slice of Aussie nostalgia, 'Go Your Own Way' captures that heady feeling of youth when the world opened up the moment you hit the pavement. Our roller-girl leans into her stride with effortless confidence, Walkman clipped to her hip, music roaring through her headphones as her Westie races faithfully beside her. In the distance, a Mr Whippy van is visible — a nod to childhood innocence that is being left behind.
It’s playful, bright and full of motion… a reminder of those long summer days when life was as simple as your favourite song."
Acrylic & aerosol on canvas - 75 x 100 x 1.5cm. This piece is unframed - you can add a low profile floating frame in your choice of black, white or oak.
