This original stencil painting by Melbourne artist Geoff Cunningham captures the nostalgic character of Australian neighbourhoods and everyday childhood moments. Geoff blends hand-cut stencils and layered spray techniques to create bold light, shadow and detail. Each piece celebrates the warmth, simplicity and familiarity of retro Australian life.

This painting is all about imagination, playfulness and freedom. I love seeing kids dressed up as super heroes or fairies - even if it's just to take a trip to the shops. This scene goes even further with the classic chip thief - the humble seagull playing the villain, being chased by the Caped Crusaders! The batman suit is also a subtle nod to the time when Melbourne was known as Batmania in the 1830s.

Yes. This is an original one-off artwork by Geoff Cunningham. I may create related pieces from the same stencil set, but each work is made unique through changes in colour, cropping, composition and narrative.

Is this artwork signed, framed and ready to hang?

Every piece is hand-signed on the front and features my distinctive stencil logo on the back, authenticating each work as an original. Most of my pieces are already framed. For most unframed works, you can add framing at checkout if desired.
